KGH MSA Working Group serves as the KGH Medical Staff Association’s representative in managing funds provided through Doctors of BC, as involved in:
 
– FE Project approval and monitoring
– Medical Staff Well-being
– Quality of patient care through FE Projects, Physician health wellness support (such as Wellness and Peer Support groups)

The Kelowna General Hospital Medical Staff Association exists to foster a strong medical community grounded in compassionate care and meaningful collaboration. We support, connect, and advocate for our medical staff to enhance professional wellbeing, strengthen partnerships, and contribute to the highest standards of care for the patients and communities we serve.

Dr. Neil Long

KGH MSA Working Group / Interim President

An emergency physician invested in several aspects of emergency medicine, including toxicology, ultrasound, and peak performance, particularly within high-pressure environments like the emergency department. 

Dr. Gary Yang

Co-Chair of WG & Working Group Executive Member

Dr. Yang completed his Bachelor’s and Doctorate degrees in Physiology at the University of British Columbia with a focus in endocrinology and diabetes. He then completed his medical training at the University of Toronto before returning to Vancouver for his residency training in Vascular Surgery. Dr. Yang has obtained additional training in Vascular Labs from the Oregon Health and Science University and is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation. Read More

Dr. Gregory Costello 

KGH MSA Working Group Executive Member

Dr. Gregory Costello serves as a Member at Large on the KGH MSA Executive, supporting advocacy efforts, governance priorities, and the engagement of medical staff across sections.

Ms. Taaryn Miller (NP)

KGH MSA Working Group Executive Member

Taaryn Miller is a hospitalist nurse practitioner at Kelowna General Hospital. She brings an NP lens to the Medical Staff Association, focusing on communication, advocacy, transparency, and patient care

Dr. Jeff Wong

KGH MSA Working Group Executive Member

Dr. Wong is focused on rebuilding trust and creating a sustainable, collaborative system. “I see my role as a facilitator and coach,” he says. “We are building a system where all team members are actively engaged, involved and feel their voices are heard. People may come and go, but the system, if well-designed, lasts.”

Dr. Ann Marie McKenna

Division of Internal Medicine

Specializing in General Internal Medicine, Dr. McKenna brings over 13 years of clinical experience to the care of adults with complex and chronic medical conditions. She is known for her thoughtful, patient-centered approach and her expertise in managing medically complex presentations.

Dr. Tara Stratton

Department Of Emergency Medicine

Willie Redd leads the board with a focus on strategic advocacy, medical staff engagement, and governance excellence.

Dr. Deema Jassi

KGH MSA Working Group / Past President

Dr. Deema Jassi serves as a member of the KGH MSA Executive Group, collaborating with a commitment to strategic advocacy, strong medical staff engagement, and governance excellence.

Dr. Marie Claire Bourque

Psychiatry

Marie Claire Bourque, MD, is a Psychiatrist and an international and national award-winning clinician, educator, speaker, and leader with more than ten years of leadership experience and strategic vision. A respected and recognized mental health thought leader, Dr. Bourque blends her experience in the public and private sectors to communicate and influence systems of care. 

Dr. Helen Bibby

Microbiology

Dr. Bibby is a Medical Microbiologist at Interior Health. Born and raised in Princeton, British Columbia, she earned her medical degree through the University of British Columbia’s Northern Medical Program in Prince George, followedby her residency in Medical Microbiology in Calgary, Alberta. She currently serves as the Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Interior Health. Outside of her clinical work, Helen is passionate about physician wellness and finds joy in dance and the natural beauty of the Okanagan Valley. Read More

Dr. Caitlin Holtby

Dr. Holtby is a neurologist and clinical assistant professor with the University of British Columbia. She completed a Bachelor’s of Science at Queen’s University and a Master’s of Science in Community Health and Epidemiology at Dalhousie University. She then went on to the University of Calgary for medical school, neurology residency and a headache-medicine fellowship.

Lindsay Taberner

Melina Moran

Director, Strategic Partnerships & Grants (KGH Foundation)

Melina Moran advances healthcare projects through strategic partnerships and donor funding, overseeing grants and supporting project development.

Atsuko Tanahara

Leader, Specialist Services and Shared Care Committees – Interior

Atsuko is passionate about supporting people and strives to provide the support people need. Born and raised in Japan, she started her career as a schoolteacher, supporting kids from elementary to high school. After moving to Canada, her career has evolved to support adults who are trying to make a difference. She has been with Interior Health since 2013 and her current role as the Leader of the Specialist Services and Shared Care Committees allows her to support physicians who are keen on making improvements and leadership development. It is invigorating for her to engage and collaborate with the Facility Engagement initiative and the Medical Staff Associations in the Interior. She has a BA in English from a Japanese academic institution and a Master of Education degree in Open, Digital, and Distance Education with Athabasca University. She has recently become a Prosci Change Practitioner and looks forward to supporting people through change. When she is not working, she enjoys soft hiking with her two senior dogs on a beautiful trail on the syilx Okanagan lands. Read More
